This year’s IBS gave the 50,000 attendants from around the world a chance to network, attend educational business sessions, and view the newest home building products and materials from respected suppliers.

During the four-day event, Caviness & Cates mingled with building show hosts, attended classes focusing on “Consumer Preferences,” and listened to various keynote speeches. One featured speaker at the event, J.R. Martinez, struck a special note with the team. An injured Iraq War veteran turned motivational speaker and TV personality, Martinez spoke on behalf of his work with the charity “Operation Finally Home,” which provides new homes for injured soldiers. Martinez’s cause is a subject Caviness & Cates can relate to as we have a similar cause, The Homefront Project. The charity is also making an impact even closer to home providing a new residence for an injured U.S. Marine staff sergeant and his family near Camp Lejeune.

Overall, our team had a lot of fun while also learning industry tips and techniques that will help us to provide superior personalized service to all of our Caviness & Cates homebuyers.

The top four counties are in New York. In Manhattan, only 4.2 percent of mortgages had negative equity. Property values there certainly didn’t crash. Suffolk County, N.Y. (the Hamptons end of Long Island) had 2.1 percent of mortgages under water. The other two counties are in New York state.

The only other North Carolina county in either of those two categories was Buncombe, home to Asheville, where only 6.4 percent of mortgages were under water.
