The Beaufort Area
Founded in 1709, Beaufort is the third oldest town in North Carolina. A small town with a population of about 4,800, Beaufort is a quaint historic sea port with much to offer. Visitors and residents alike enjoy the beautiful historic waterfront district along Taylor's Creek, which features many great dining and shopping opportunities. Nearby Carrot Island is home to feral horses that can be seen from the Beaufort Docks. Beaufort is also home to the North Carolina Maritime Museum, Beaufort Historic Site, and Beaufort Inlet is even home to the wreck site of Blackbeard the Pirate's famous flagship, Queen Anne's Revenge, which is being recovered and preserved.
Nearby Atlantic Beach is home to both the historic Fort Macon State Park and public beach access, as well as the newly renovated North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. Highway 101 provides a straight drive directly to the main gate of Cherry Point MCAS in Havelock, NC. Located only four miles from Morehead City and six miles from Atlantic Beach, Beaufort makes all the attractions and amenities of the Crystal Coast within a stones-throw from your front door.
